Many of us will remember long hard winters of yesteryear, when Jack Frost made his appearance on the inside of our windows every morning, weaving leafy patterns for us to breathe on when we woke up. Fun times actually, when the tip of your tongue got stuck on the iciness on the window, causing us to laugh out loud, but nonetheless punishingly cold.

Such a perishing cold that it affected the health of children badly. Bronchitis, asthma, laryngitis, tonsillitis – all were features of childhood when we let winter take a grip inside the house. Of course central heating changed much of that and with its advent our health improved dramatically, but at a great price.
